Speotyto cunicularia
Synopsis: Breeds very locally in rangelands and grasslands east of the Cascades. Apparently it no longer nests in the Rogue and Umpqua valleys. Most notable is the record from southern Klamath County (Lower Klamath National Wildlife Refuge, fledged).

Relative Detectability: Fairly easy to spot and easy to confirm due to habit of standing near its nesting burrow during the daytime.

Challenge: Determine if species has disappeared from southern Wasco, Jefferson, and western Crook and Deschutes Counties.
